Rise of one person at the expense of another, contrasting worlds, disguises, and redemption reveal the four most common Dramatic Patterns found throughout The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. To start with, rise of one person at the expense of another Is a pattern that ultimately describes an Individual whose actions take effect upon themselves. In this case, an example of this pattern would be how the Nurse and Lady Caplet try and convince Juliet to marry Count Paris. We will write a custom essay sample on Oijiojoi or any similar topic only for you Order Now Lady Caplet, who barely speaks to Juliet since he was born, surprisingly beckons her to accept Paris’ hand in marriage. When the Nurse hears Lady Caplet’s request, she also tries to persuade Juliet to marry Paris. This example exposes to the audience how both of the characters are personally setting up the marriage for Juliet only to satisfy themselves. Count Paris is blood related to the Prince, and knowing If they got Juliet to marry him Into the family, his wealth will be shared upon with them. They both consider how much advantages they would get over Gullet’s wellbeing and happiness. Take the Nurse for instance, in the play, the audience may recognize that she over exaggerates how lovely the idea of marrying Paris when she apprehends the idea of the service she was going to get within Paris. Another example of this pattern Is when the Friar agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet. Like the first example, this reveals the greediness within Friar Lawrence. Within the flirts few scenes before agreeing to the marriage, he disagrees greatly of Romeos love for Juliet and mentions how he tends to rush relationships to an expense. Pam 2 After pondering over the idea, he realizes that their forbidden love can patch the Caplet and Montague houses back together in peace. He quickly changes his mind and decides to wed them both, assuming he will get all the credit for mending the feuding households together. Additionally, contrasting worlds is another dramatic pattern that discloses this play and contrasts the differences between the servants and their masters. A scene in the play that specifically describes this pattern is when the servants were having a personal party within the Caplet party. When the audience thinks about servants, they think about the responsible tasks that they have to savor for their masters. The audience least expects the servants to have a laughing matter at their own leaders’ party. In this case, the Caplet servants are not respecting their roles, but Instead, act as equal within the household to try and gain more privileges. In addition, another instance of this dramatic pattern is when Gullet’s father calls the Nurse by her first name, Angelica. While in the midst of preparation for the wedding, Lord Capsules is inning around, overexcited, and giving orders. He gives a task for the Nurse to complete and ends up mentioning her by her first name. The Nurse, astonishingly, the reader to infer that Lord Caplet and the Nurse had an affair. If the audience truly thinks about it, it is remarkable that he calls her by her first name. Last time he spoke to her, he was calling her hurtful names when she went against Juliet and Paris’ marriage. Furthermore, disguises is an additional dramatic pattern that supports the building block of the plot of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. The first example of this pattern is when Lord Caplet warms up to Paris about marrying Juliet. When Paris asks Lord Caplet for Gullet’s hand in marriage, he tells him that Juliet is too young of an age to get married. This reveals that he is Pam 3 lying and hypercritical because he vowed to his wife when she was Just as young as Juliet was. The reader may notice that Lord Caplet is playing hard to get, and instead of easily handing Juliet to Paris, he suggests that Paris should get to know Juliet at the masquerade party before marrying her. In addition, another illustration of disguise is when the Friar pretends that Juliet is dead. When Juliet comes running into Friar Lawrence cell, she demands him to find a way to keep her from marrying Count Paris or she will kill herself right then and there. He panics and tells Juliet that he consumed a potion that will make it appear as if she is dead, but only for a certain amount of time. The Friar’s plan was to have Juliet beg her father for forgiveness and agree to the marriage with Paris. She is then going to ingest the potion and appear dead in the morning. The Capsules will then place Juliet in the Caplet tomb, and when she wakes up, Romeo will be there to reassure her. She will then return to Mantra with Romeo, and be unrestricted to live with him away from their parents’ hatred. What the Capsules do not know is that Friar Lawrence lied about her being dead, and reassured them to quickly start the burial for Juliet so they will not suspect a thing. Having to lie about Gullet’s death prevents his idea from backfiring. Moreover, the dramatic pattern that ties the conclusion of the play is redemption. Redemption s when the characters of the storyline begs for the forgiveness of others. An example that reflects this pattern is when the Friar confesses and asks for mercy when he is caught. In the last act of the play, the Friar’s plan had miscarried and Romeo and Juliet ended up committing suicide individually. After being caught by the watchmen, he quickly confesses how he secretly married Romeo and Juliet thinking that he could bring the Capsules and Montague together. He mentions how destroyed Juliet was for having to marry Paris and he offered her a Pam 4 leaping potion to trick everyone that she was dead. The Friar also mentions that he sent a letter to Romeo which failed to deliver about the false death of Juliet, thus leading to Romeo killing himself over disbelief. After seeing Juliet awaken from her deep sleep, the Friar mentions how he tried to convince her to come with him where he will cast her away to be a nun. When Juliet refuses to go with him, he runs away as the group of watchmen closes in. While asking for forgiveness, the reader can tell that the Friar does not pity up to the Prince. He gives himself up to Prince Callus and asks for consequences and sacrifice knowing the tragedy he has done to both of the houses was his fault. Another instance where the characters seek redemption is when Lord Caplet makes up with Lord Montague. After they both lost their only child, they both realized that no more lives should be taken from the aging dispute. Now knowing that his daughter is married to a Montague, he calls Romeos father, his make a monument of Romeo while Lord Montague makes a monument of Juliet in honor of their characters. Weed Essay Example For Students

Weed Essay WeedWether you call it Hemp, Mary Jane, Pot, Weed; it doesnt matter. It is stillCannabis Sativa, or cannabis for short. And it is still illegal. The use ofmarijuana as an intoxicant in the United States became a problem of publicconcern in the 1930s. Regulatory laws were passed in 1937, and criminalpenalties were instituted for possession and sale of the drug. Marijuanarefers to the dried leaves and flowers of the cannabis plant, which contains thenon-narcotic chemical THC at various potencies. It is smoked or eaten to producethe feeling of being high. The different strains of this herb producedifferent sensual effects, ranging from a sedative to a stimulant. The term marijuana is a word with indistinct origins. Some believe it isderived from the Mexican words for Mary Jane; others hold that the name comesfrom the Portuguese word marigu-ano, which means intoxicant. The use ofmarijuana in the 1960s might lead one to surmise that marihuana use spreadexplosively. The chronicle of its 3,000 year history, however, shows that thisexplosion has been characteristic only of the contemporary scene. The planthas been grown for fiber and as a source of medicine for several thousand years, but until 500 AD its use as a mind-altering drug was almost solely confined inIndia. The drug and its uses reached the Middle and Near East during the nextseveral centuries, and then moved across North Africa, appeared in Latin Americaand the Caribbean, and finally entered the United States in the early decades ofthis century. Marijuana can even be used as Biomass fuel, where the pulp(hurd) of the hemp plant can be burned as is or processed into charcoal, methanol, me thane, or gasoline. This process is called destructive distillation,or pyrolysis. Fuels made out of plants like this are called biomass fuels. This charcoal may be burned in todays coal-powered electric generators. Methanol makes a good automobile fuel, in fact it is used in professionalautomobile races. It may someday replace gasoline. Marijuana has many medical purposes also. The cannabis extract was available asa medicine legally in this country until 1937, and was sold as a nerve tonicbutmankind has been using cannabis medicines much longer than that. Marijuanaappears in almost every known book of medicine written by ancient scholars andwise men. It is usually ranked among the top medicines, called panaceas, aword which means cure-all. The list of diseases which cannabis can be used forincludes: multiple sclerosis, cancer treatment, AIDS (and AIDS treatment),glaucoma, depression, epilepsy, migraine headaches, asthma, pruritis, sclerodoma, severe pain, and dystonia. This list does not even consider the other medicineswhich can be made out of marijuanathese are just some of the illnesses forwhich people smoke or eat whole marijuana today. There are over 60 chemicals inmarijuana which may have medical uses. It is relatively easy to extract theseinto food or beverage, or into some sort of lotion, using butter, fat, o il, oralcohol. One chemical, cannabinol, may be useful to help people who cannot sleep. Another is taken from premature buds and is called cannabidiolic acid. It is apowerful disinfectant. Marijuana dissolved in rubbing alcohol helps people withthe skin disease herpes control their sores, and a salve like this was one ofthe earliest medical uses for cannabis. The leaves were once used in bandagesand a relaxing non-psychoactive herbal tea can be made from small cannabis stems. Terrorism, Its Groups and Categories

Introduction Terrorism attacks have become very common in today’s world especially with the increasing conflicts of power and the increase in financial difficulties in the globe. Many terrorist groups have been formed whose main agenda is cause violence in order to achieve certain political or religious goals. Loss of lives and destruction of property have been the major effects of the attacks especially with the increasing technology where advanced ways of attacking have been developed especially the use of biological and chemical weapons.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Terrorism, Its Groups and Categories specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Most of the terrorist attacks happening nowadays are even being supported by the military forces of the countries involved which make the attacks even more coercive since the military that should protect the people is itself involved in the same attacks. The terror ists have the believe that their actions can always be justified by law. This makes them as confident as they plan the attacks very well so that they know exactly where and how to attack (Anderson, 2002, p. 1). Categories of terrorist organizations Terrorist organizations are the groups that work together in planning and executing terrorist attacks. There are two basic categories of terrorist organizations namely domestic and international also referred to as foreign terrorist organizations. Domestic terrorism, as the name suggests, involves terrorist activities either by an individual or a group directing the acts of violence to own people especially the government. On the other hand, international terrorism which consists of international terrorist organizations, involves terrorism activities where an individual or a group of people are directed by other countries to carry out violence attacks to other countries beyond their boundaries. Domestic terrorist organizations are, theref ore, based on their local areas. For instance, a terrorist organization that attacks only its own government or local society, but not other countries, is a domestic terrorist organization. Domestic terrorism often occurs in African nations opposed to international terrorism whose focus lies mostly with the Americans. Due to this fact, the U.S maintains a different understanding and definition of terrorism that is different from that of African nations. International terrorism can be said to cause deaths for many people or result to serious injuries as well as damage of property. On the other hand, domestic terrorism is less violent and results to lower rates of killings and loss of property as terrorist groups, who are mostly civilians, only coerce the government to take a certain action. Although both types of terrorism are aimed at a certain goals, they both differ in that international terrorists targets the worlds powerful countries as they seek public opinion from the globe. D omestic terrorism is, however, targeted to the local settings within a county’s boundary.Advertising Looking for term paper on political sciences? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More While domestic terrorism, mostly in Africa, is motivated by poverty among state members and the desire to develop their countries economically, international terrorism is not directly linked to these factors evidenced by many terrorist groups coming from well off backgrounds. Another major difference comes in with the technology used in both types of terrorism where international terrorism involves the use of sophisticated technology to carry out the attacks such as missiles while most domestic terrorism involves use of human efforts to create havoc in a state. Terrorism activities are carried out by terrorist groups which are defined as any movement that uses violence as a weapon to achieve its goals political, ideological or religious (Shinn, 2005, p. 1). Differences in the two categories of terrorist organizations Despite the fact that all terrorist organizations always have almost similar motives they differ in certain perspectives although they all have the universal objectives of antisocial motives. Since their activities involve hostility, they have to plan and organize on how to handle security in the areas they are planning to attack. Domestic terrorist groups are not, usually, supported by the government since in most cases; they attack the government in order to attain certain goals. They therefore have strategies that they use to get people or certain social groups to support and sympathize with them. This support team include both active and inactive members who do not participate directly in the attacking activities but rather offer support in other ways such as financial, security, just to mention a few. The active members, on the other hand, include the active energetic people who participate in the real a ctivities of attacking including fighting and riots. Such support teams may be volunteers if at all they support the pursuit of the goal in question or in other cases, they may be forced into participating by the terrorist members. International terrorist organizations, on the other hand, are more likely to e supported by their governments since most of them attack, not their home country, but other nations due to disputes on control over land, power or even religious conflicts. These groups are therefore supported financially, in terms of recruitments, weapons as well as means of communication. When it comes to recruitment and training, the two terrorist groups also differ in that the domestic terrorist organizations usually recruit college and high school leavers but only who are up for the task. In addition, the process has to be sensitive to security since its home based and the groups’ intentions should not be identified because most of the terrorist attacks happen when they are least expected.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Terrorism, Its Groups and Categories specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Therefore, recruitment and training activities should e done so confidentially without involving the public. International terrorist groups, on the other hand, recruit members who are known to be linked to terrorist groups or even people whose family members have been earlier involved in the terrorist attacks. Basically, recruits in international terrorist groups involve people whose backgrounds are known with those who have family ties to the organization getting priority over others (Mfields 2004, p. 1). The training process basically involves giving instruction on the use of weapons used in the attacks. Domestic terrorist organizations are basic involved in less violent actions such as seizure of occupation in a certain building, hijacking and traditional bombings and assassinati ons. On the other hand, international terrorist organizations use more violent actions. Most of them include the deadly nuclear weapons, the use of biological and other chemical materials. These advanced technological weapons are far more destructive than the traditional methods because they are targeted to cause mass destruction. Many of the international terrorists are now using chemicals that are meant to cause deadly diseases such as anthrax. Others use the technology to spread certain spores which cause skin infection which is not treated as soon as possible, results to death. Due to the differences in availability of support especially from the government, other facilities such as training, advanced weapons and financial factors, the two groups of terrorist organizations have differed greatly in their success of their terrorist attacks. The domestic groups have not been successful over the years due to lack of advanced technological knowhow of weapons as well as training servi ces. In addition, domestic terrorists are not large enough to counter the security of a country where they are planning to attack because the governments are always stronger than such groups are. International terrorists have, however, been successful many of their attacks with the use of advanced weapons, the support they get from the government and the use of experienced individuals as members of the group. The government support offers them the opportunity to plan and organize every step of the activities such as communication in case more recruits are required or additional weapons as well giving them financial support which is very crucial in the success of such international attacks (Samuraitom 2007, p. 1). Conclusion Terrorism has become very common in today’s political and religious arena. There has been both domestic and international terrorism where domestic terrorism involves local attacks that are less violent while the international attacks are more brutal and ta rgets countries beyond borders. Despite the fact terrorists believe that they have the right to attain certain goals, attacking other people causing destruction is not the only way they can do so.Advertising Looking for term paper on political sciences? Let's see if we can help you! Terrorist organizations should therefore be restricted to prevent the harm they cause during attacks. Especially governments that support these groups in attacking other nations should stop this vice and find better ways of solving problems such as negotiating between conflicting nations. All efforts should therefore be done to restrict the movement of such terrorist organizations. Reference List Anderson, W. (2002). Terrorism and the Drug War: More Unforeseen Consequences. Web. Durer, Letter To Jakob Heller (1509) Example

Durer, Letter To Jakob Heller (1509) Example Durer, Letter To Jakob Heller (1509) – Book Report/Review Example Durer View of Painting and Printmaking Business The letter by Durer explains the performance of two businesses in the 16th century for printing and paint making around 1503. Specifically, it details the two businesses that Durer carried out in the region. Durer decided to turn his efforts to printmaking since the printing work was more profitable than paint making. The painting that Durer made had to use blue pigment ultramarine that is expensive, reducing the profitability of the art business. Durer considered it a loss after realizing that he could have made more from printmaking. The Heller’s 200-florin fee charged reduced his profitability in the business where he considers having made 400 florins. Durer argued that he could have made 1000 florins if he engaged in the printmaking business. In addition, painting was taking a long time compared to the printmaking proving the loss that Durer had to experience in art (Larry and Jeffrey 122).Several advantages were noted for pr intmaking as compared to the painting. First, printmaking was cost-effective, as it required cheaper raw materials, reducing the production cost. After completion, the portraits would require regular painting that indicated the complexities that existed in the art business, taking into account the time and resources used in the artwork. For this reason, printmaking was considered efficient as it required minimal checking and had more income. In addition, it is clear from the letter that new skills in the printmaking practice attracted more customers than the painting career. Therefore, it was easier and cheaper for Durer to carry on the printmaking business as compared to the art that requires so many inputs (Larry and Jeffrey 123). Despite my small body and young age, I used to do things unimaginable to me while at high school. I was known all over St Lawrence Academy for mischievousness. Even the director of the school knew me even though it was very difficult for the director to have known anyone unless he or she was a performer in class and would occasionally meet the director during coffee hours organized by the school in their honor. Mine was a mixture of both, known majorly for bad and partly for academics. If one would tell me that school is a center for transformation, I would agree with him because it is though schooling that I got transformed. I usually had to wait for the opportune times to lay down my targets. This I often did with a lot of surety and accuracy which never missed the targets once laid on their paths. I remember once organizing to lay down the director on his way to school for blackmailing me and my fri ends before the morning assembly. It was an embarrassing moment for me and my friends when the director made the announcement live open before the assembly that we had peed in front of his office at night. We did not know that the director’s office had been fitted with CCTV cameras when we went pee in from of his office for scorning us on the previous assembly. I did not know that I would again come back and work in this school again and be answerable to the man I peed in front of is office. To be liked once again by the man who scorned and rebuked me occasionally before people and made sure that everyone heard about it as he covered my presumed good image with his usual abuses. The director told us to call our parents to school and threatened to dismiss us from the school if we didn’t do so. We called our parents and the director started narrating the story and even produced the cameras showing the slides with our images carrying out our hideous undertaking. It was of course and embarrassing situation before my parents who knew how innocent and hard working young man. My father whipped me for the first time and probably lost trust in me. My mother could not say anything but just kept mum. She did not tell me how bad I am neither did she tell me of anything bad that I ever did even when I went back home after the school had closed that semester. I performed rather well but she never said anything concerning that. I could not configure what was actually going on in her mind, whether she thought I was wrong or right only lay with her. My father is a man who does not hide anything and for any bad done by anyone, he would scorn and punish at the point of the offense. Life with my father was a rather difficult one even though at times we used to appreciate his efforts for making us follow the straight path and for being very friendly at times especially when we did something good. Life however made me change my bad characters and become a good man as I can call it today. I went to college after finishing my high school and life was not just very easy on my side, it was rather rougher than I had expected. The stories of good life and personal control were just amazing and I actually longed for it. Leaving my home for college was just an imaginable, I thought I would have full control over my life, do whatever I wanted at any time. The contrary however awaited me at college. My father almost forgot me and always assume that I am a grown up

Short book reviews and comparison of reviews Essay

Short book reviews and comparison of reviews - Essay Example Pramoedya Ananta Toer. This Earth of Mankind. New York: Penguin, 1996. Vol. 1 of Buru Quartet. Print. This Earth of Mankind is a novel about modernity, civilization, sex and sexuality in the society. The novel is set around the main protagonist, Minke who reflects on the real meaning of modernity, which he associates with â€Å"learning and science.†1 The idea of modernity and civilization is advanced as Minke shows his interest in electricity;2 he demonstrates modernity by using trains and smaller machines driven by oil and not steam. The novel starts by explaining factors of globalization and hence modernity. The novel also manifests the inner conflict in the main protagonists arising from conflict of interest between the colonized and the colonizer. The author utilizes the narrative approach to detail the life of the main protagonists, and how the protagonists advance the themes of colonialism, modernity, and sexuality. Through describing various inventions and developments in science, the author brings out development of modernity in the novel, and how it impacts the lives of the main protagonists. The author utilizes symbolism and descriptive language throughout the book. For example, the use of aspirin as the most powerful medicine to be discovered by humanity to symbolizes effects of modernity on humanity. The main perspective in the novel is the importance of the native Javanese culture as the main protagonists still fight to keep their identity in the society despite the rapid spreading forces of modernity that seek to abolish such cultures. This is observed through Minke who tries to find his real identity despite being in a Dutch school. The novel also brings out the ills of modernity in the society as prostitution and brothels became a status symbol in the society,3 and the oppression of the natives as seen in the rape of Annelies by Robert; a way to exert power for being associated with Europeans. The issue of mixed blood brews much conflict as Maurit’s father commits blasphemy by mixing the native and white blood, which is unforgivable. Thus the white is taken as a much superior race that cannot mix with the low class native blood. This is an issue of superiority complex, where the white is viewed as being much superior tot eh native. However, dispute the issue of mixed blood being contentious, the whites still continue to sleep with native prostitutes in brothels and to sire children with the natives, which is also mixing the native and white blood. The whites are thus hypocritical. This makes them to reconsider the racial boundaries and in some cases, the native can actually be assimilated into the white society to enjoy the prestige; an example being Minke who enjoys the prestige of the whites though from a mixed blood. Inner conflict in the main protagonists is the main aspect in the novel. Minke in his setting struggles to find his real identity in a society that ranks his native class at the lower end of social hierarchy. He is lonely and is forced to live with constant questioning by fellow students who probably were skeptical regarding his ability to make it in sciences as whites do.4 Nyai Ontosoroh faces serious inner struggles; she is a mistress to a white, though a native and is even mistreated by the same whites for being a native; she is used as a sex
